Maya Masala 2: 171 James St, Northbridge Tue-Sun 5.30pm-12am
Maya Masala coming soon to QV1 building, Hay Street
BYO
Not the best service, and not the best indian restaurant in perth but good food for a good price.
Just go there and try the lamb saagwalla (14.90). A beautiful spicy dish - lamb cooked with spinach, butter, ginger and garlic, very rich. Absolutely delicious with some naan.
We also had butter chicken (14.90).
Dosa are huge and tasty.
Great thali platters for people who just can’t decide and want to try everything.

I went to Maya Masala QV1 this weekend and I would rate this place 1/5 - do not go. The service was amaturish. The food was flavourless and to top things off I found a big fly buried in my rice. *wrench* DISGUSTING!!! It wont be long before QV1 Maya Masala goes the same way as Maya2 ie closes down.
I think it tastes okay (no flies so far) but the service is poor, and they are stingy - too much rice and only a drizzle of curry.
Wehtn there today at Maya Masala in QV1. First time was ok but the thali was COLD. The naan bread was burnt and the pappadum was soggy. The Vindaloo had only two pieces of meat in it!!!. It was just sauce….DIGUSTING and STINGY.
The Butter Chicken had a smell that was a mix between sour milk mixed with tomato sauce. The kheer desert was luke warm and ripe for food poisoning.
Overall this restaurant is EXPENSIVE at $13-$15 for a lunch and not good value for money. Water downed curry with no taste that is luke warm giving a smell that will turn you off. As for service it was not good, no seating, noisy and hygiene was poor. The person serving the food sneezed on his hands after serving you food. mmmm…. You will get a better feed going to a food court near Central Park which for $5-6 gives you a much better tasting curry that is full of meat and best of all at the right temperature!.
GO TO MAYA MASALA IF YOU WANT FOOD POISONING, FOOD THAT IS LUKE WARM, WATERD DOWN AND IF YOUR WALLET IS TOO HEAVY.
I come from India. this is the worst tasting curry that I have had for a long time……Avoid Maya Masala……Expensive and of poor quality. Temperature of food was too cold.
Go and learn how to make a good Korma or Vindaloo before opening restaurant. You give me plastic cutlery as well……
Restaurant no good. Shame to all Indians
Wow I have heard such bad reviews of the QV1 Maya Masala - does anyone know if the northbridge one is still ok? Apparently the QV1 Maya made it onto a list of restaurants in trouble with the health inspector….I know the curry place you are talking about Jon and it is awesome - I think it is called Ruby’s - they make a really good massaman.
Good curry give Anghiti in Innaloo a go. That is good. Great dishes, really clean restaurant and a decent range of beers. Go for the food moreso than the decor, but why would you go for the decor?
Great dishes, inexpensive and tables are always available.

Agni is a great restaurant which is in Innalloo. They have a good buffett that is great value for money. The owners of Agni in Innalloo also have a sister restaurant called TURBAN in Stock Road near Fremantle. Great buffet, excellent curry and not that expensive.
You know if the restaurant is good when there are Indians eating there. Both Turban and Agni deserve a 4.5 / 5. There garlic naan is very nice and you can see the chef make it in the kitchen since the kitchen has a glass window for the patrons.
Went to Maya masala QV1 on friday night. Great food - butter chicken was delight and best in town - thats for sure. Service was good, not excellent, but acceptable. Hygiene was acceptable, i mean clean and fresh. Chicken tikka was amazing. Price - a bit on expensive side but guys we paid atleast twice that in 9marys, and believe me food was much nicer in QV1 maya masala. I would highly recommend it - and now they are BYO as well!!
Maya masala QV1- -well they have lifted their game. Food is certainly mouth watering. Hygiene wise, best maya masala outlet in perth. Service is friendly. Price is comparable to other good indian restaurants, about 20-25 dollars per head for dine in. Thats not too bad. I think its a much improved joint these days. Considering its only been operational for few months, i think they are going in right direction. I rate it 8.5/10. Worth a visit.
Maya masala QV1 - its great indian restaurant. I think the fly jon mentioning above is called “long”, which is a black indian herb. Its impossible to have a fly in rice - i mean how stupid to think and naive too.
I think food is excellent, 10/10 at maya masala Qv1. Service is ok. Its very clean, trendy and friendly experience every time i go there. Highly recommended!!!!
how come all the bad reviews are posted and the nicer ones not. I think Maya masala QV1 is the best indian restaurant in perth. 10/10. end of story. i go there every other day. Its sensational!!!!!!!
Does anyone think its weird how there were so many bad reviews one after the next; and then all of a sudden all these good (no more like excellent) reviews pop up… maybe the owners got wind of the bad reviews and are all now trying to counter all the negative reviews??
I also had thali there and mine was also ice cold - the curries had almost no meat in it and I had to wait for my naan for such a long time… by the time it arrived, everyone else had just about finished their meals.
Talking about everyone elses food… everyone complained that for around $15 for the curries, you don’t get much meat and nothing else with it - basically you pay $15 for lunch and all you get is two/three pieces of small meat and a load of sauce - on top of that you still have to buy rice and naan!
We thought the whole thing was just ridiculous - way too expensive for cold sauce - we felt ripped off.
Sorry guys - but you better start giving people value or you may not be around for much longer. I suggest you use these negative feedback as constructive criticisms and fix what is broken… remember your customers are the people who essentially put food on your table - if customers are not happy, they will take their money elsewhere AND not just that, they will also tell their friends (who will tell their friends and friends of theirs) what a bad experience they had. Remember word-of-mouth is very powerful and in today’s age where internet is available to most consumers, you must be very careful what customers are going to take home with them.
Hope that helps:)
Check your bill before you pay if you eat here. The food is ok, the service is passable - but unfortunately they are very dishonest at the QV1 Maya Masala.
When our bill came the charge was for $381 - a quick recalculation and check of what they’d placed on our order showed that we only owed $249. That was even accounting for exorbinantly priced $7 bottles of water. Unfortunately they tried the same trick on the folks sitting behind us. We were not impressed and would certainly never eat there again.
Shame on you Maya Masala. Avoid the restaurant find another in Perth.
My advice if you eat at Maya Masala QV1 - Check your bill when you’ve finished.
When our bill came the total was $381 - a quick calculation and check of what was on the bill showed that we should only be up for $249. And that was even accounting for $7 bottles of water! Unfortunately the folks on the table behind us had the same stunt pulled on them. At least they didn’t try to argue the toss with either of us.
In summary - the food’s ok, the service is passable, but the honesty is non-existent. Not a good look. None of my group will ever be eating there again!
